Everything US citizens need to know about India eVisa, e-Arrival Card, visa status, fees, and travel requirements.

India eVisa — General Questions

India eVisa is an electronic travel authorization allowing you to visit India without going to an embassy. It is 100% online — apply, pay, and receive your eVisa by email. A regular India visa requires a physical embassy visit and paper documents. The India eVisa is valid for tourism, business, medical, and conference travel and is accepted at major international airports, seaports, and land crossings in India.

Yes! US citizens are fully eligible for India eVisa online. The program covers citizens of 160+ countries including the USA. US passport holders can apply for tourist, business, medical, and conference eVisas entirely online without visiting an Indian embassy or consulate.

Normal processing takes 48–72 hours. Our Express service delivers in 24–48 hours. Apply at least 4–5 days before your travel date. The Indian government advises applying at least 4 days in advance.

Stay limits vary by eVisa type: Tourist eVisa — up to 90 days per visit (30-day, 1-year, or 5-year validity). Business eVisa — up to 180 days per visit. Medical eVisa — up to 60 days per visit. Conference eVisa — duration of the event, up to 30 days. Validity starts from the date of issue, not arrival.

You need: (1) Valid US passport — 6+ months validity, 2 blank pages minimum. (2) Recent passport-size photo — white background, face clearly visible. (3) Scanned passport bio page. (4) Valid US email address. (5) Credit/debit card or PayPal for payment. For Business eVisa: company invitation or business letter. For Medical eVisa: letter from Indian hospital or attending doctor.

India eVisa is accepted at 28 international airports including Delhi (DEL), Mumbai (BOM), Bengaluru (BLR), Chennai (MAA), Hyderabad (HYD), Kochi (COK), Kolkata (CCU), Goa (GOI), Ahmedabad (AMD), and Amritsar (ATQ). It is also valid at 5 seaports and 3 land border checkpoints.

India eVisas cannot be extended from within India. If you need more time, you must exit India and apply for a new eVisa or a regular visa from a consulate. For long-term stays, it is advisable to apply for a 1-year or 5-year Tourist eVisa before travel, which permits multiple entries up to 90 days each visit.

India e-Arrival Card

The India e-Arrival Card is a mandatory digital form that all international travelers — including US citizens — must complete before arriving in India. It replaces the old paper arrival/departure card. You must fill it out online before boarding your flight. It is separate from your India eVisa. We recommend completing it at least 72 hours before departure.

You should complete the e-Arrival Card at least 72 hours before your scheduled flight departure. You can complete it up to 7 days before travel. Do not wait until the last minute — the form requires review and confirmation. It is available at indiaevisa.us/e-arrival-card.

The India e-Arrival Card requires: Full legal name, passport number, date of birth, nationality, purpose of visit, flight number and airline, port of embarkation (departure city), address in India (hotel/host), contact information, and health declarations. Keep your travel booking details handy when filling it out.

India eVisa costs consist of two parts: (1) the Indian government's visa fee, and (2) our processing service fee. Government fees vary by visa type and nationality.
